Yay, the snow stopped and the wind has dropped. Only 13 degrees, but feels better without the wind blowing and the roads are clearing. Salt and traffic.
And my faithful Sue came with her plow on a pickup truck and plowed my driveway and yard, so life is good!

Yay, the temp in MN came back above zero! 4 right now. And pretty snowflakes are falling. Haven't had much of those this year. I don't especially like snow, especially don't like driving on it or on ice, but we do need some snow for the protection of little animals. They need it to burrow into and use it for insulation against the cold.

What happens when a rough and ready logger who wants no responsibility and thinks he doesn’t deserve a second chance at love falls for an attractive prim and proper lady with a ready made family?

The largest logjam ever occurred in1886 at Taylors Falls, MN. It garnered worldwide attention and made the history books as far away as Sweden. Reporters arrived by train from all over.

Will and Carrie think there is no chance for them to have a family of their own. Each has reasons to avoid love and entanglements. Will is burned out on responsibility after helping his widowed mother raise his siblings and his wife and infant son died. Carrie thinks no man will want her and her brother. She promised her father she’d raise her brother and while she’s attracted to Will, duty comes first.

Then the greatest logjam in the world throws them together for six weeks. Will is staying at the boarding house where she works while he and many others try to break up the logjam. Can their love last beyond the summer logjam?

3,500 new words on the current manuscript in the past 4 days. Feels great to be making progross again after a long break to do edits and galleys on the soon to be released books.
Also got the preview of the cover for I'll Always Find You which comes out Aug. 15. Love it! Will post as soon as I get the final version.

Peanut butter cookies recipe

Here's my peanut butter cookie recipe:

Peanut Butter Cookies

Mix together thoroughly: 1/2 c white sugar or substitute

1/2 c brown sugar, 1/2 c Crisco, 1/2 c peanut butter and 1 egg.

Sift together and stir in: 1 1/4 c flour, 1/2 t baking powder, 3/4 t. baking soda and 1/4 t salt.

Chill dough. Roll into balls the size of large walnuts. Place 3” apart on greased cookie sheet. Flatten with fork dipped in water-criss-cross. Bake until set but not hard in 350* oven for 8-10 minutes.

Makes about 3 dozen cookiies.

Busy, Busy

Sorry to have disappeared.
Been busy. Attended the WISRWA writer's conference in Brookfield. Very interesting, but a very long drive.
Then a huge family reunion weekend gathering (dh's side) in southern MN (115 on Sat.) Lots of fun, but again a long drive. Exhausting.
Then learned my sister had passed away after a long battle with cancer, so cut the weekend short and came back home, then took off again the next morning for her funeral. Another huge gathering on my side of the family. Sad reason to get together, but good to see everyone.
Now it's back home and trying to rest up and get caught up with everything.
Weather was horribly hot the past two days, 83 today after rain last night to cool things down.

Oh, and I temporarily lowered the price to 99 cents on three novels, Dead Man's Image (a Lacey Summers Mystery), Mirror Image (formerly called Angel Wings) and Traveling Bug.

Finally, we've got two sunny days in a row! Yay! 67 today.
Though we did get a shower of rain this morning.

Went to St. Cloud to see my sister yesterday. Had a nice visit. She's on hospice care now and not doing very well, but we enjoyed the visit. Her husband is also in poor health.

I'm going through another older manuscript today, preparing to put it up on Kindle, Nook, etc.
Can't believe how much time that takes.

Spent the morning at Majestic Falls Spa, getting prettied up. LOL. Well, my hair, at least.
It's another cold, sunny day in Minnesota. Sunshine and snowflurries drifting down at the same time. Orval took me out to lunch, so I got out of the house, then bought new snowboots. Warm and furry ones.
The Speedee truck followed me home and brought me office supplies, so now I have no excuse.
So, it's back to work on revisions!

Hi guys,
It's been a while since I've popped in here. Need to more often.
Life has been a little hectic. We had a bad chimney fire Jan. 19, so had to live in a temp home while they rebuilt our house. Just getting back into it now.
What a long, complicated process, dealing with builders, insurance companies, etc. Ugh.

Hi guys,
I'll have a new book out soon from Whiskey Creek Press, tentatively entitled, "Secret Daddy." It's a contemporary love story with the twist that Daddy is keeping the secret instead of Mommy. I had a lot of fun writing this one and hope you enjoy it, too.
Stay tuned for more information.

In the meantime, I've been doing some proofreading and editing. It's good to stay indoors with all the rainy weather we've had in Minnesota lately. The leaves have passed peak now, but there's still a lot of color. Weird. Usually our peak leaf-looking season is the last week in September or the first week in October. I've never seen fall color this late here. Is this yet another symptom of global warming?

I'm still freezing apples. My favorites are the Haralsons. I love their tart taste fresh and they also make great pies and applecrisps.
I also made grape jelly from my purple grapes. Yummy.

Only a week until gun deer hunting season. Dh will go for the weekend. He loves to go with the guys, whether or not he gets a deer.

spring birds

Don't ask me why, but all of a sudden, we have a beautiful collection of
birds at our feeders.

I've put out oranges. colored sugar water, water and sunflower seeds (as I
did other years without getting much action.)

Suddenly this spring we have all kinds of birds!
Just now I had a pair of Cardinals, 2 pair of Orioles, rose breasted
finches, gold finches and a rose breasted grosbeak!!
They're so pretty and fun to watch especially the Orioles and grosbeak..

Along with the red and gray squirrels, and regular birds like robins,
nuthatches, blue jays, woodpeckers, sparrows, chickadees, juncos, etc.

Guess I've been a little busy. I've been reading books on my Kindle and get a daily newspaper that way, too. (WSJ) So far, I love it and haven't had any of the problems some people have complained about on the Amazon site.
The only drawback I've found so far is that it's way too easy to spend money buying books. LOL.

It's supposed to go below zero again tonight in MN. I hope this will be our last subzero night. I'm more than ready for spring!

I've been working hard on a series mystery novel starring PI Lacey Summers. Her latest client is accused of murdering his wife who was found Dead in Bed of CO poisoning. Naturally, he says he didn't do it. But did he?

I'll let you know when this book comes out.

My Kindle has arrived!

My Kindle arrived Monday.

I love it so far. But it's going to be way too easy to buy too many new
books. LOL

The background of the screen is a little grayer than I'd like (about like
the Rocketebook) but that's supposed to make it easier on your eyes. No
backlight, so you can read in full sunlight (but need a reading light to
read in the dark, just like a paper book.)

If you subscribe to some newspaper, blog or magazine and leave the wireless
turned on, it will magically appear on your Kindle each day, or whatever.
And wherever you are!! Say you're on vacation and your daily NYT is at home
on your doorstep and your Time mag in your mailbox. With the Kindle
subscription, it's delivered to your Kindle wherever you are within the USA.
Even overseas, where you don't have wireless access, you can get stuff via
your computer and transfer it via usb cable.

It's weird to look at the Kindle in the morning and see your paper there
waiting for you. No recycling, either. LOL. (Does anyone waste more paper
than the NYT and WSJ?)

You can send anything from your computer to Amazon to be converted to .azw
format (a version of Mobipocket.) and have it emailed back to your computer
for free (and you transfer it yourself via usb cable) or Amazon will send it
directly to your Kindle for 10 cents per document. A great way to carry your
work with you to proofread or read a critique partner's work.

The Kindle doesn't do graphics very well, so magazines consist only of the
articles, not the pictures or graphs, advertisements, etc. Maybe some day
they'll do a larger version of it that will do textbooks better, but for
now, plain text works best.

You can see the epaper technology in the Sony reader at a Border's
Bookstore. But the drawback of the Sony is no wireless (you download to
your computer, then transfer stuff like I did with the old Rocket.)

And
they have far fewer choices. Amazon has over 96,000 right now and is adding
more every day.

You can see whether yours are offered in Kindle format by searching in the
"Kindleboooks" section of Amazon's bookstore.

Harlequin is putting all of theirs in Kindle format now at the same time as
paper.
I'm sure other publisher's will follow.

My Amazon shorts still haven't appeared. Soon, maybe.

I'm sure the folks at Amazon are much too busy with the Christmas rush of people who are excited about their new electronic paper reader, the Kindle.

Well, I succumbed, too. I ordered one. It says it won't arrive until after Crhistmas, but that's okay.

Yes, I know. I'm an electronics nut. I love the stuff. We'll see if this one lives up to all the hype.

I can't believe the people who are giving it a "review" when they haven't even seen or used it yet.

Hey, a "review" is supposed to be given AFTER you use the thing!!! Maybe they can't afford one and are jealous of the people who can? Sigh.

Those reviews bug me, just like some book reviewers bug me when they skim through and don't really read a book. I mean, how stupid is that? If you don't want to try something, then don't. But don't knock it unless you've tried it anyway. Or pan a book you haven't read.

Sorry. We got a big snowstorm in MN yesterday, so I'm not in the best of moods. I really hate driving in the stuff and I have to get out in the morning.

Today I have the fireplace going and DH and I have played a bunch of dominos.
