Hope you all had a nice Christmas.
I'm sorry I've been missing in action here. I had a heart attack and had to have an angiogram and a stent put in. So spent last weekend in the hospital and have very little energy yet.
We did make it to church this morning and it was great to see people again.

Last day to grab a free copy on Amazon!
Excerpt:
The sound of
crying in the library/office made Watcher freeze. Swinging around, Watcher saw
Horace’s wife sitting on the floor, crying.
“Y--you’re
not real,” Watcher told her. “You’re dead, Esther. I went to your funeral. Go
away and leave me alone.”
She kept on
crying, then rose and started toward him. “You’re just as guilty. You need to
be punished. I’ll see that you pay for my daughter’s death,” she said.
“No, go away.
You’re not real, you’re just an—an image, a figment of my im—imagination,” Watcher
said.
She picked up
a heavy metal poker from the stand beside the fireplace. With a furious look on
her face, she raised it over her head and came toward the Watcher.
“No!” Watcher
screamed and bolted out the door and down the road.

What I've been reading: Time's Embrace by Deb Stover 5 Stars
Scary, yet wonderful time travel stories. Deb Stover
creates interesting, memorable characters and throws them into unforgettable
situations.Three exciting and different fish-out-of-water stories where the main
characters have to deal with new situations. Zach and Hilary's story will stick
with you. Zach and Miss Nellie battle to overcome the same problem and Elliot
was a sweet and memorable young man.
Each story was different, yet showed Deb's skill with creating the details of the past and humorous characters. Good job, Deb!

Served my circle meeting this morning and now have to go see the dentist. Sigh.
From the fun to the icky. Oh, well, such is life. Maybe he'll fix the tooth so it stops hurting. That would be a good thing.
It's feeling like fall the past few days, but my fushia's are still looking beautiful. I take them inside the garage each time they predict frost. Hope to keep them a while more that way.

Excerpt:
As I hung up, two police cars drove up and parked. Chance
strode from the first one. My heartbeat sped up as it always did when I saw
him. He’s a hunk, delightfully tall, ruggedly built, with curly brown hair. And
he’s usually very nice and friendly to me.
But now he was in his cop mode. His piercing blue eyes
glared from below his heavy eyebrows as he paused in front of me. “Cassie. What
are you doing here?”
“Working, Chance.”
“Do you always have to be involved when there’s
trouble in our county?”
My temper flared and I glared back. “I’m not
‘involved’ as you call it. I just got here and whoever is stinking up the
garage has been dead for quite a while.”
He frowned at me, his expression surprised. “Yeah? You’ve
smelled a dead body before?”
I swallowed and nodded. Chance stared at me, and then
he and the sheriff exchanged looks. Chance’s expression plainly said we’d talk
about this later. This was one more thing about my past that I hadn’t told him.
“Where is it?”

Double Trouble by Edna Curry
Rosie, to please her dying mother, agreed to marry Ken
Latham, the handsome, rich boss she doesn’t love, but who has been regularly
proposing to her. She rationalizes that she’ll have a good life with him and
true love is only a fairy tale anyway. But that promise of a good life turns
into a nightmare when Ken is mugged, has amnesia and breaks their engagement.
Also, Rosie and Ken have to deal with their company’s CEO,
Lester, who sends Kirk, Ken’s identical twin, to investigate possible
embezzlement at their building supply store. And someone is trying to kill Ken
and also harassing Rosie.
Can they survive long enough to build their attraction into
love?

Yay, Spring is finally here. My tulips and daffodils are up, and last week's ten inches of snow is almost gone. Just old piles of snow from where the snowplows piled it up remain. But the 70s weather should help it melt fast this week!
In the meantime, here's a quick sneak peek of my romantic suspense novel, Bear Trap by Edna Curry:
Mel glanced
upriver as he sipped his coffee. Two people stood on the cliff overlooking the dam.
A man and a woman? They seemed to be arguing, facing each other and gesturing,
not admiring the dam as he would have expected.
Foolish city slickers. It’s not safe there.
A constant spray of water rushing over the dam made the rocks slippery. He put
down his coffee and picked up the binoculars he always kept handy for a closer
look, looping the safety cord around his neck. Yes, long red hair on the woman.
A flash of green, maybe her blouse?
If only he
could warn them to go back to safer ground. They were too far away for them to
hear him if he tried yelling. Besides, the roar of the water going over the dam
drowned out all other sounds.
Signs posted along
that road warned of danger, but he knew people were fascinated by the dam and ignored
warning signs all the time, trying to get close to the waterfall. Nothing the
authorities did stopped people from putting themselves in danger.
As he watched,
the man’s arm swung out. He slapped the woman. She put a hand up to her cheek.
A moment later, the man reached out and gave her a hard shove away from him.
Mel gasped as she
fell over the edge of the cliff. He froze and held his breath as she dropped
down, down, down until she disappeared far below. The curve of the rocks on the
bank prevented him from seeing her. Had she fallen on rocks or into the rushing
water of the bear trap?

She nodded, so I went
through my usual spiel for the tape: “It’s Monday morning, April 18th. New
client Patti Jones is about to explain her problem. State your name, address
and phone numbers slowly and clearly for the tape, please.”
“Sure. I’m Patti Jones.
I’m 25 and have my own interior design business in Chicago.” She rattled off
her address, the address of her business and various phone numbers.
I explained my rates
and she waved them aside as though money details were of no importance to her. “I
can pay you, don’t worry about that.” Pulling out a checkbook, she wrote a
check for my retainer and laid it on my desk, saying, “I just need someone to
believe me and help me find Agnes. She just has to be okay!”
I tucked her check in
my purse. “What makes you think she isn’t?”
Again her lip trembled
and she bit down on it to control it. “She told me to meet her for dinner Saturday
night at a hotel in the Twin Cities. We were going shopping at Maplewood Mall
afterward. We often do that, meet somewhere, I mean. She likes to get away from
this little burg and spend a weekend in a hotel once in a while. Sometimes we
go shopping, sometimes we see a play or a movie, or go to the symphony.”
“I see. But this time
she didn’t meet you there?”
Patti shook her head. “No.
And she never showed up at her hotel, either. She’d made reservations for both of
us. I kept calling her cell phone, but she didn’t answer. Nor did she cancel
her reservation or answer my emails. Something is very wrong, I just know it.”

It's finally above zero, but not for long. Sigh. I'm so sick of below zero winter weather, I could scream. Wish I could afford to be a snowbird and go south.
Our handyman cleaned some of the 30 inch deep snow off our roof this a.m. so at least the edges won't form ice dams and the air vents to the bathroom and kitchen are cleared.
Usually, we get enough melting days to take care of most of the snow, but this year it seems like it wants to stay cold all the time. Sigh.
