Excerpt:

The sound of crying in the library/office made Watcher freeze. Swinging around, Watcher saw Horace’s wife sitting on the floor, crying.

“Y--you’re not real,” Watcher told her. “You’re dead, Esther. I went to your funeral. Go away and leave me alone.”

She kept on crying, then rose and started toward him. “You’re just as guilty. You need to be punished. I’ll see that you pay for my daughter’s death,” she said.

“No, go away. You’re not real, you’re just an—an image, a figment of my im—imagination,” Watcher said.

She picked up a heavy metal poker from the stand beside the fireplace. With a furious look on her face, she raised it over her head and came toward the Watcher.

“No!” Watcher screamed and bolted out the door and down the road.

And right after this scene, they settle down for a game of 'poker'? (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
